Help, My Computer Won’t Turn On!

Picture this: It’s been a long work day but you still have some more things to finish up on the computer before you can head to bed. You have been looking forward to resting all day as soon as you finish this project. However, when you go to turn your computer on, it doesn’t do anything.

If you experience this problem, don’t start worrying yet. There are many things you can try in order to get your computer up and running again.

First, make sure every power switch is turned on. It could be anywhere from the power cord you are using to the power switch on the computer. These could get turned off for many reasons and if this is the case, then your problem is solved.

If that doesn’t work, check the outlet that your computer is plugged in to. Make sure that outlet works by plugging a lamp or some other device into it to see if those properly turn on. It could be that your outlet went bad.

Also, make sure that all of the computer’s cables are plugged in to their respective places. One of the most common reasons a computer fails to turn on is because of a disconnected or loose cord not being plugged in.

If you are still not having any luck, there may be a problem with the inside of your computer. If you are new to computers or do not know what you are doing, then you should take your computer to a technician for help in fixing it. Don’t try to take your computer apart by yourself. You may damage something on the inside or may not even be able to put it back together the right way.

Take it to a computer specialist that you trust and make sure to get a reasonable quote before you agree to pay for their services.

When using your computer, you expect it to always turn on and work to its best ability. Computer problems are common, but it is frustrating when you don’t know what is going on and can’t fix it. If you’ve ever experienced the blue screen of death, you know exactly what frustration can be with computers.

The blue screen of death can happen at any time, and it literally shows up as a blue screen on your computer, usually with a bunch of “Stop codes” shown on the screen. A blue screen of death will almost always make you reboot your computer to get past the screen.

This error message can sometimes be a serious problem, especially if you have malicious software on your computer. Many times the blue screen of death with list a ‘stop error’ code that you can look up on the Internet. When looking it up, you will then be able to tell what kind of problem your computer is having. You can then work out solutions based on the type of error you are receiving.

Sometimes the error will go away when you restart your computer. However, there are some errors that will need to be fixed or else your computer will constantly give you the blue screen of death.

If you want to troubleshoot it yourself, make sure you know what you are doing. Computer language can be difficult to decipher. Sometimes it is better to take your computer to a qualified technician. Make sure you take it to someone you trust and who won’t charge you a lot of money to fix it.

If your computer will require a lot of fixes, it may be better to think about getting a new computer, especially if yours is old or outdated. You will then have a fresh computer to start from and will avoid the daily frustrations that computers can sometimes cause.

Computer Monitor Isn’t Working

Computer problems can be rough on everyone, especially when you have a big paper or project due at work or school the next day. When a computer doesn’t work, stress levels tend to rise and frustration mount. Figuring out computer problems can be hard to do unless it is a simple solution. By researching everything you can about the problem, you may then be able to find an easy solution.

If you have turned your computer on yet nothing is showing up on the monitor, your monitor may have gone bad. If you have another monitor you can plug in, try doing that and seeing if that one works. If it does, then your first monitor most likely went bad.

It usually isn’t worth it to fix a monitor. Monitors are fairly inexpensive these days. Never try to fix a monitor yourself. There are many volts of electricity that are stored in the back of a monitor that can shock you or even kill you if you come in contact with it. It’s not worth it, just get a new one.

If the screen shows up dark, you may just need a new video card. Find the video card located near the motherboard. If the video card is built into the computer, you won’t be able to fix that. However, if it is not built into the computer, you can easily remove it and buy a new one at a computer hardware store.

If you aren’t certain what the video card is, then don’t try removing anything. Take your computer to a repair shop and ask them to fix the problem for you. Tell them exactly what is going on with your computer and they will be able to figure out the problem and replace any parts that need to be fixed.

Computer Running Slow

Infected by Antivirus software

Many times a computer problem can be simple, but more often than that it can be quite difficult to fix. If you don’t really know what you are doing with your computer, then you should leave it to the professionals. However, before spending a ton of money on getting it fixed, you should try to troubleshoot the problem yourself.

If your computer is running slower than normal and you aren’t sure why, there are a couple of reasons why this may be happening. If your computer takes forever to start up or load a web page, you may have a problem with your operating system. Sometimes with everything you store or download onto your computer, it takes up a lot of space and your computer’s memory can’t handle it anymore. For example if you go to a website to download an xvid media player, read the XviD FAQ to make sure your computer’s memory can handle it. This is where you may need to upgrade your computer’s memory in order to get it running faster.

However, if you find that the memory isn’t the problem, you may have a virus on your computer. While you could have gotten it from anywhere, the important thing is that you need to remove it as quickly as possible before it makes your computer worse or even before you pass the virus onto someone else’s computer.

Make sure your computer has the latest anti-virus software so that you can stay up-to-date on any new viruses that have come out. Always run your virus scanner, especially if you suspect that you may have a virus.

There are many viruses that are quite difficult to get rid of, and this is where a computer technician can come in. Tell them all the details you have found about the virus, and they should be able to get it removed from your computer fairly quickly and easily. Don’t be surprised though if you lost some of your files. Many viruses can corrupt your computer and cause major damage.

Watch What You Download

If you are always on your computer, you may find many programs out there that claim to make your computer run faster or even ones that say they will detect and remove viruses. However, many of these programs are false and will instead download malicious software onto your computer.

If you suspect that you have downloaded one of these programs, you need to remove it right away before it infects your computer even more. You may also send it to someone else without even knowing it.  So be careful if you are using software like ares p2p otherwise you might share a virus with your friends.

First, make sure that it really is a virus. Your computer may just be acting strange for some other reason. Power down your computer and unplug it from the wall and the Internet. Wait about ten minutes and then plug everything back in again.

If your computer is still having issues, then try running your anti-virus software. If you don’t have any, there are many free programs that you can get online, but make sure they are reputable and virus-free. Do an Internet search online about the program if you aren’t sure.

After you run your anti-virus software, make sure to follow the instructions to remove any viruses it may have found. You can also do an Internet search on the viruses so that you can be more informed about what is infecting your computer.

The important thing to note is that you shouldn’t go to websites that you are unsure of. If you want to download free software make sure they are reputable ones like the open source media player VLC Player.  If a website looks shady, it probably is. Never download anything without first checking it out.

There are many viruses out there that can get your personal information which can then be used against you. It is very difficult to have to trace everywhere a hacker used your credit card info. It can and will cause a lot of heartache if someone has access to your bank accounts, so make sure you are safe even when you are online.

With normal use of your laptop you have probably downloaded many pictures, songs and even programs to your system. Your laptop is not the same as it once was because it now has all this new software on it. One way to help with speeding your computer up is to defrag your system. Having a laptop can be fun and exciting, especially because it is so portable. However, stress levels can rise very quickly when a laptop starts having problems.

If you are in the process of using your laptop and it has frozen and won’t work, there are a few different solutions you can try. First, you want to disconnect the power cord from the laptop. Next, remove the battery and wait about 30 seconds. Put the battery back in to the laptop and plug the power cord back in. Turn the laptop on and you should find that it works like normal.

This solution also works if your laptop has not waken from its sleep or hibernate mode. Removing the battery can be a quick fix for most laptops, but if it is constantly freezing up or not waking up you may want to take it in to a computer repair shop to be looked at.

Sometimes a laptop will randomly turn off while you are in the middle of working on it. If this happens you want to make sure that your laptop hasn’t gotten overheated. This can happen if it has been running too long or even if the laptop is in an area with extreme temperatures.

If this happens regularly, you may want to invest in a laptop cooling pad. This is placed underneath the laptop and helps cool it off with extra fans. That way, if your laptop is moved around a lot or constantly on, you will have no problems with overheating.

Laptops are fun and portable, but they can also be tricky when faced with problems. Make sure you regularly keep your laptop up-to-date and take extra care of your laptop so that it doesn’t get into bad shape. Sometimes it’s better to just get a new laptop when the old one stops working like it should.

Dealing With Technical Support

Having a problem with your computer can be very frustrating and stressful. If you are having computer problems, chances are you are going to need to contact technical support for help with your computer issue. But before you pick up that phone, make sure you have everything you need ready beforehand.

When having issues with your computer, make sure you note everything that the computer is having problems with. Write it down if you have to so that you can clearly explain your problem to the computer technician. Having a detailed description of what is going on will help the technician diagnose your problem quicker than normal. If you just state “My computer isn’t working”, then that won’t really help out at all. It will just prolong the help process.

Even though you are frustrated with your computer problem, make sure you stay calm with the technician. He or she may want you to try some techniques that you’ve already tried yourself, but go ahead and retry them so that the technician can eliminate them from the possible problems with your computer.

When relating your problem, speak clearly and distinctly so that the technician can understand you. Speaking quickly will only have the tech ask you to repeat yourself, which will cause more frustration for everyone.

Chances are that your technician will be able to solve your problem. However, they may not be able to diagnose what the problem is and will either have you contact your computer’s technical support or pass you off to another department.

If you end up getting highly frustrated, it is best to hang up and call another time. You can also try troubleshooting the problem yourself by looking up the symptoms on the Internet. Through the Internet you may be able to find the answers you are looking for in fixing your computer problem.

Easy Fixes for Computer Problems

If you are experiencing computer problems, you are probably have a hard time keeping your stress levels down. When computers stop working like they normally do, it is often difficult to pinpoint the exact problem unless you happen to be a computer guru. Instead of taking your computer to an expensive repair shop, you can try fixing the problems on your own if you know what to look for.

A bad fan in a computer can be loud and also cause the computer to shut down when overheated. You want to make sure you have a good working fan or else you can melt certain parts inside your computer. Usually fans will acquire a lot of debris and dust inside them, so it is important to clean them off of all the debris they have accumulated. An easy fix is to buy a can of compressed air, which is available at any computer hardware store for an inexpensive price.

The can of air will come with a plastic straw, and you will use that to insert it inside of the computer’s vents. You will then want to blow out as much dust as you can. Before attempting to remove dust though, you might want to cover up your face or wear a face mask so that you don’t end up getting dust all over you.

If using the can of air doesn’t work, then you will probably have to open up the computer to get a clearer angle to clean the dust off of the fan. Carefully open your computer’s case and locate the fan. Remove any particles or objects that may be blocking the blades.

If you regularly care for and maintain your computer, you will have no problem using a good computer in working order. If problems do arise, take the time to learn how to fix them yourself instead of taking them somewhere else.
